Outreach and school performances
Lecture, Demonstration, mini-performance.
West Hawaii Dance Theatre offers a two part educational dance presentation
for students K-12.
PART ONE:
Teachers may invite professionals dancers and instructors to their
classroom for a 45 minute, lecture demonstration and/or dance class or
classes residency. Subjects to be covered are to your specifications, and
can include dance history, how dancers train for a professional career,
different aspects of the theatre, or a movement class in the disciplines of
classical ballet, jazz, modern, or creative movement.
PART TWO:
Students are invited to a theatre to view a 45 minute mini performance.
Performance offerings include:
"From Head to Toe, The Making of a Ballet" or "The Making of a
Fairy Tale".
"From Head to Toe, the Making of a Ballet"
Audience members view dancers as they warm up, beginning with basic barre
work and continuing through precise "center" floor work to a dazzling
display of turns, leaps, beats and combinations. Variations from different
Classical Ballets are performed. Examples of costumes and the
special shoes dancers wear will be presented. Audience members are invited to
participate in certain segments of the demonstration. Performance is narrated.
"The Making of a Fairy Tale"
Audience members view a narrated mini-version of Ballets such as "Sleeping Beauty", "Cinderella", "Don Quixote", "Swan Lake", "Pinocchio", "Nutcracker" etc.
Audience participation and questions at the conclusion of the performance.
PERFORMANCE NEEDS:
Minimum open space, 20' x 25', preferable wood floor (WHDT brings in their
portable floor in the event of concrete surface) Microphone and sound
system, if event is held in large gym, cafeteria, or theatre. (Items not necessary if held in front of classroom or multi-purpose room.)

AVAILABILITY-Open, all islands
TOTAL NUMBER IN COMPANY: 5-7 (2 instructors, 3-5 dancers)
COST TO PRESENTER-Artists Fees plus travel/housing expenses.
Residencies of different lengths can be negotiated and tailor made to fit
schools needs.
