| Dance Season Ballet 2000
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE INTERNATIONAL BALLET STARS SHINE THROUGHOUT HAWAII
The Big Island's West Hawaii Dance Theatre will present "Ballet 2000 Internationale", their year2000 Hawaii Dance Season, throughout the Hawaiian Islands in January 2000.
"Ballet 2000 Internationale " includes an invited roster of International Principal artists from major dancecompanies such as the American Ballet Theatre, Washington Ballet, Infinity Ballet, Perm Ballet,Hungarian State Ballet, Ballet Pacifica, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, and the New York based"Complexions" Contemporary Dance company.
The Season focuses on developing an appreciation of dance in three elements 1) Public performances 2) School shows, Lecture Demonstrations and outreach school visits. 3) Master Classes and Workshops
PUBLIC PERFORMANCE "Ballet 2000" A Gala Evening of Classical and Contemporary Ballet Principal dancers and soloist from an international array of companies will perform selections from theirvast repertoire of Classical and Contemporary Ballets. Offerings include the famous pas de dix from theHungarian Ballet "Raymonda", a world premiere by award winning Latvian choreographer DaceDindonis, a new dramatic pas de deux by Andre Jouravlev, the comedic "Cafe Waltz", the classyBalanchine offering, "Who Cares", and a rivoting cutting-edge contemporary work from "Complexions".
SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS Students on the Islands are also invited to attend special school presentations of "Cinderella".This classic fairy tale is based on the story by the 17th century poet Charies Perrautt with music byProkofiev. Students will experience the technical dancing and acting expertise of principal dancersfrom internationally companies perform excerpts from this historical ballet Included are the romantic pasde deux of Cinderella and her prince and the comic roles of the ugly step sisters. Michele Gainesnarrates the story. The 45 minute performance is completely costumed. This educational lecturedemonstration gives students an interactive role in the dazzling display of turns, leaps, beats and lifts.The cast meets with the audience for a question and answer period at the conclusion of theperformance. Performers are available for school site visits through the Artists-ln-The-Schools Registry.
MASTER CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS Company members will be offering classes in classical ballet technique and classical jazz for all ages andabilities on each of the Islands. Please Contact West Hawaii Dance Theatre for schedule.Classes will be held on Maui, Big island, and Kauai.
