About this year’s production of The Nutcracker Ballet:

This festive, family-friendly production includes more than 80 local dancers and professional guest artists from New York City Ballet, Arizona ballet, Las Vegas and beyond!  Both new and original choreography will delight the audience as this iconic and charming fairy tale—based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King—is performed to the melodic music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

About the Full Dress Rehearsal:

A full dress rehearsal is the last practice run before a show officially opens. You’ll see the same lighting, hear the same music, and enjoy the same performers in full costumes.  The difference? There may be missed cues, lighting that needs to be corrected, or other flubs. The show will go on, but it may not be as polished as the full performance.

Support This Year’s Performance!

For more than 30 years, WHDT has made this cherished, family-friendly tradition a highlight of the season for generations of student dancers, musicians, theatre enthusiasts, and the community at-large. Our students, dance educators, administrative team, and volunteers spend months rehearsing, altering costumes, preparing stage props, promoting ticket sales, fundraising, and planning every detail of the performance. It’s a huge undertaking for a small nonprofit, and costs have continued to increase, but it’s a tremendous opportunity that we are committed to perpetuate!

The Nutcracker Ballet enriches our Big Island community by:

providing our students (ages 3 to mature adult) the experience of performing in a full-length stage production with an audience, which is a fun way to build confidence.

having professional guest artists act as career role models and mentors for students, in addition to sharing their beautiful talent on stage.

connecting community members with a love of music and dance through a shared holiday tradition.
