We are excited to announce our 2019 Spring Production of Coppélia will be presented at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea on Saturday, May 18th, 2019.
Coppélia is a sparkling tale of a mysterious inventor, his life-sized doll and an inquisitive young couple, filled with magic, mischief and many comical delights. This light-hearted ballet is full of warmth, romance and laughter, and has been entertaining fans of all ages all over the world with its magic, mischief and many comical delights.
WHDTA Senior student dancers Mako Yamamoto and Enna Hendrickson lead the ballet as Swanhilda and Coppélia, the mechanical doll, while WHDTA dancer and HPA student Andrew Fung is Franz. A favorite with Hawaii audiences, visiting International Danseur Timour Bourtasenkov, formerly of the Bolshoi Ballet, returns to the Big Island to dance the role of Dr. Coppélius, the mysterious inventor.
Over 70 local youth, teen and adult community dancerswill round out the cast with full orchestra accompaniment by the newly formed West Hawaii Dance Theatre Orchestra under the musical direction of Maestro Brian Dollinger.
West Hawaii Dance Theatre will also host a silent auction at this performance. Proceeds from our fundraising efforts and performance tickets benefit West Hawaii Dance Theatre & Academy, a 501 (c)(3) Non-Profit Organization.
